Security wise all connections are encrypted with 256-bit AES as you might expect, and beyond password identification optional two-factor authentication can be established through the use of a mobile app that can generate a one-time code.įor its collaborative tools, Teamviewer incorporates an in-built chat client and address book functionality for known users and machines. Users can then identify the machines they want to connect by the unique ID, and Teamviewer takes care of the rest. The use of a routing server makes it possible to connect machines behind firewalls, as both sides connect first to the routing servers to get a unique ID (randomised every time), which in turn gives the servers the IP of each machine. To ease connecting, Teamviewer uses its own routing servers to mediate handshakes between machines, but then passes this off to a direct connection. Teamviewer tries to separate itself from the competition by adding features that focus on collaboration and presentation, but it is still at its core a remote desktop tool that enables administrators to manage remote machines or for employees to access their desktops on the go.
